In our Flocknote and on our website, I have been sharing with you about my intention to retire at the end of June 2026. That will be about 14 months from now. I decided I wanted to make a gift to St. Mikes as I leave. I thought to myself, “How could I make this have a really significant impact on the Parish? I know! I’m going to ask all the parishioners to join me in doing this!” Thus, this letter to you!!
As I considered what could have a real impact, I found myself looking at our mortgage payment. It is currently just shy of thirty-three thousand dollars ($33,000) every month. If we could pull together one million dollars (yes, $1,000,000) by next April or May and re-negotiate the mortgage we could reduce the monthly payment to around thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000). That is a savings of twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) every month. Giving us almost a quarter million dollars ($240,000) every year to use in ministry and keeping up our beautiful church, while following Jesus’ challenge to help those in need. If you wish, you can see a clear breakdown of all the numbers on our website.
This would be a gift to our own community and the next pastor. The bishop has approved this “project” and exempted it from cathedraticum and other diocesan assessments. My gift will be at least $12,000 – maybe more if I can. I’ve already started and I’ll give every month. Will you join me? Give every month, or quarterly, or at the end of the year, or early next year, or in a lump sum. Use cash, check or give electronically!
Enclosed is a special envelope for this giving, and in it a card you can fill in to make your own gift to this effort. You’ll notice it even includes a QR code “thingee.”
I know this is quite an ask, and it would be over and above the steady support our parish will still need. However, I truly believe that it is a worthwhile effort. I love St. Michael Parish and you, the parishioners. It is a privilege to serve here and I hope you can join me in making this gift for the future of OUR parish.
