In the desert Moses held up high A sign of our sin and resulting pain So too must I now stare at mine As a warning not to sin again
For we have lived only by your love Not by our hands alone do we bear In this barren wilderness of earthly life Oft of your grace we're not aware
You have done wondrous deeds Showing your love and lasting care Yet often I've turned away my gaze Looking away from your Word I dare
Raised up before our earthly eyes Your love, your heart, your humanity Our Savior broken, and giving all In spite of all, to set us free
God's only Son who came to save A gift of self from the One who is love To heal the hurt and show the way A sign and gift from the Father above
Who had to die to set us free From all that pulled and led us astray That in this sight we'd finally see The truth and light of a bright new day Dear Jesus, Help me to always look to the light Of your love, your truth, and your way Help me to hold my faith on high In holy thanksgiving to you today As we wander this earthly desert May Your Love be held on high That all may finally truly see That you so loved the world You gave your only Son So that we'd all have life And be with you eternally
