This gospel reflection is based on Matthew 2:1-12.
Journey
From different lands we have met As if in some unknown plan Only to find that we have a common goal To follow the tail of the star As it leads us to a place of wonder For we all felt the call in our own tongues To make this journey of discovery To bring gifts to whoever this prophecy has led us Each from his own land Each from his own prophets who long foretold Each seeking this King of All
Joining as one we travel together for safety For we each have brought great gifts To honor this great King of all To finally see this King with our own eyes This great Son of revelation As foretold, this King of us all
We seek to find answers not goals We seek together from different lands, peoples and customs Yet all wanting the same, longing to find the One The One who will save us all from ourselves As into the dark night the star leads us Across mountains and deserts and rivers and foreign lands We are encouraged by being together So different, but with common goals
Our joy drives us forth and sustains us But there are those who fear We look for answers to great mysteries Others look to protect only their power And we will not be deterred by them Because of the dreams the all-powerful one sends For us to return another way
As we have found him, this King and all powerful one In the form of a helpless child in arms of poor ones We rejoice to learn that he is the One The all powerful who humbles himself to his Father Born of simple people in simple glory Showing all that humility is strength and purity That helplessness is power and purity That goodness is God’s will
We offer gifts from our bounty Yet he gives bountifully from his poverty We offer our humble honor and service To this little one who is a gift from God And he will do great things for us all
Dear Jesus help me to follow your star To find and be with, and remain with you Lead me always toward your light As I journey with all I have To offer it humbly to you
