Ministry of the Word
An essential part of the Catholic liturgy is the proclamation of the Word.
While the gospel is always read by a priest or deacon, the Old and New Testaments are read by Ministers of the Word (lectors). God speaks to the assembly through them, and the impact of God's message will depend significantly on conviction, preparation, and delivery. The lector has the responsiblity for not simply reading the words, but also assisting the assembly to hear the Word.

Get Involved
Ministers of the Word are trained to share the Word of God with the worshipping assembly on Saturdays/Sundays, weekdays, holy days, at sacramental celebrations (First Communion, Confirmation), and funerals.Requirements to Serve as a Minister of the Word (Lectors)
- possess a pleasant speaking voice
- be able to gain and maintain the attention of the assembly, putting life to the Word
Commitment
- able to dedicate time to prepare for the readings
- able to take direction and suggestions from peer lectors
- attend annual training sessions
- scheduling done by Mass preference and availability
