An essential part of the Catholic liturgy is the proclamation of the Word.
While the gospel is always read by a priest or deacon, the Old and New Testaments are read by Ministers of the Word (lectors). God speaks to the assembly through them, and the impact of God's message will depend significantly on conviction, preparation, and delivery. The lector has the responsiblity for not simply reading the words, but also assisting the assembly to hear the Word.Requirements to Serve as a Minister of the Word (Lectors)
