is not just for men discerning the priesthood or women considering becoming a nun?
Lay people (those who have not been ordained)
have many options when considering how to live out God's call to holiness in their lives.
Lay orders can be found amongst the Franciscans, Dominicans, Carmelites, Benedictines,
and many more."We know that all things work for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose."(Romans 8:28)

How to become a Monastic and Not Leave Your Day Job: An Invitation to the Oblate Way of Life. When I saw the title of Brother Benet Tvedten's book in a monastary bookshop, I scooped it up and spent the next two weeks devouring it, cover to cover. Brother Benet describes a way of life for ordinary lay people that helps us live a more balanced, prayerful life in harmony with our community. I soon joined a local group of Benedictine Oblates affiliated with the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia.
