PREPARATION FOR FIRST COMMUNION

Traditionally, we prepare children for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion in the third grade at St. Michael. Our  preparation is a combined process for children and their parents. Each sacrament includes the following steps:

1. An introductory session for both parents and children to complete the first lesson and learn how to use Dynamic Catholic's Blessed textbook and video supported curriculum.
2. Family-based learning for the remaining lessons completed at home according to a flexible schedule.
3. Three 2-hour parent/child retreat sessions will conclude preparation and help families reflect on the key points and provide families with quality time for faith discussion and learning.

The Diocese of Richmond requires:

• All children prepare for First Reconciliation prior to preparation for First Holy Communion.
• All children must participate in a Sacrament preparation program in addition to a general faith formation program*.
• Registration is required!
• As primary witnesses of the faith to your children, parents will be guided through the process of preparing their children for sacraments with the support of our faith formation staff.
