The Blood Drive Ministry hosts quarterly drives, conducted by the American Red Cross, to help supply whole blood and blood product needs for regional hospitals. Each pint of blood or concentrated blood products donated can save three lives.
How can you get involved? Several volunteers are needed to support the drive, by soliciting sign-ups, greeting donors, and other miscellaneous tasks; however, the greatest need is for blood donors to participate in the drives.
During the March blood drive, we had 57 available donor slots. As of the morning of the drive, 37 slots were filled, and 30 of those who had appointments came, but we had 3 walk-ins, bringing us to a total of 33 donors presented. Of the 33 who presented, six were deferred, so 27 donations were made. Of those donations, two were Power Reds, which count as 2 units each. Therefore, the drive collected 29 total units - 83% of our goal, which was 35 units!
