Prayer Shawls

I hope you had a good summer.  We will gather for our first meeting on Monday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  Bring any shawls to the meeting you may have completed this summer.  Once construction begins, our group will not be able to meet in our regular space (Room 106).

I am looking forward to our time together!

WHAT IS A PRAYER SHAWL? Care and love of knitting (or crocheting) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter (crocheter) begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Each completed shawl is offered a final ritual before being sent along its way. Some shawl recipients have continued the kindness by making one themselves and passing it on to someone else in need. Some of the uses of prayer shawls are: when undergoing medical procedures, as comfort after a loss, during bereavement, birthing, during an illness and recovery…there are endless possibilities. We will be working with the Pastoral Care Ministry to ensure that those who wish or need such an all embracing gift will receive it.

Please contact Juanita Walker at 741-1613 or by email at sittejw@aol.com if you are interested in participating in this ministry, or if you know someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl.
