Sometimes in the liturgy, we go up to the attic and dust off some of our ancestors' beautiful furnishings and pieces of art that will accent an existing space in our homes. We bring these rediscovered treasures down into the places where we live and place them into a new context, revitalizing both. That's precisely what we've done with some of the Latin you hear during the mass. The reason mass is said in the language we speak is simple; we need to understand the scriptures and great texts of the liturgy for them to become part of our lives and to bring about conversion and change through the Holy Spirit. To enable us to dig into the treasures of the church and at the same time to understand what we're saying when we sing in Latin we've provided the following translations. Please read and reflect on them as you need.

Greek translations

Kyrie Eleison - Lord have mercy
Christie Eleison - Christ have mercy

Latin translations

Sanctus - Holy
Agnus Dei - Lamb of God

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi - Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world
miserere nobis, miserere nobis - Have mercy on us, have mercy on us
dona nobis pacem, dona nobis pacem - Grant us peace, grant us peace

Ubi caritas, est vera, est vera - Where there is true charity
Deus ibi est. Deus ibi est. - God is present
