The St. Michael's Adult Choirs are open to all parishoners in middle school and up who love to sing and have some aptitude for singing. You don't need to be a "trained" musician or singer, we'll train you. You can choose to sing at the 9 or 11 a.m. masses or do both if you wish. We especially need singers for the 9 a.m. mass. This past year saw the St. Michael's adult choir stretch and grow in many new ways, culminating in an outstanding performance at the recent May music concert, held over 2 nights. In October the choir was present at the dedication of our new church, in a vibrant liturgical celebration presided over by the Bishop of Richmond, Walter Sullivan. In November the choir led the singing in James Hansen's Office For the Dead, a solemn setting of evening prayer in Requiem and Remembrance. In early December the choir presented an evening of Advent music in preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas. The Advent concert was a beautiful blend of solo, instrumental and choral music and the choir sounded remarkable, over 400 people attended. At Christmas the choir sang both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In the new year we focused on Holy Week and the upcoming May concerts, deciding to do 2 performances of the May concert. For those who heard the choir Holy Thursday and Good Friday, they were rewarded with music that inspired a deeper sense of the Paschal Mystery throughout Holy Week. Three weeks after an exhausting Easter schedule the adult choir, joined by the children's choir and all the instrumentalists of the the Sullivan-Guardian Ensemble and St. Michael's rhythm section, rehearsed long hours and pulled off 2 extraordinary performances in the Parish Hall on May 16th and 18th. Approximately 450 people attended those concerts and the choir raised nearly $4500 for the music ministry. What a brilliant end to a demanding yet rewarding year of music in concert and in liturgy. Congratulations to the St. Michael's choirs, and all the St. Michael's musicians who performed so admirably throughout the year! If you're interested in joining the music mininstry at St. Michaels, email Tom Kaczmarek and make yourself known. You can join the choir by simply showing up at the scheduled rehearsals. Please check the schedule page to make sure of time and places. We work very hard, but we also enjoy socializing together outside of rehearsals. Whether in rehearsal or liturgy or socializing outside of church, WE HAVE FUN! Come be a part of this vibrant and growing group. Choir members should be sure to check the 'Works In Progress' sheet before coming to rehearsal to ensure they have all the current music with them. Choir members, please use this information to be properly organized. Also, don't forget to practice with your CD's!
The best way to stay up-to-date is by attending rehearsals and singing with the choir regularly on Sunday mornings. |
